About Us
The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) is a state agency that was created to initiate, support and enhance efforts to improve the three key elements -- environment, economy and community well- being -- that make the Sierra Nevada region such a unique and special place. The SNC is charged with seven program objectives: to provide increased opportunities for tourism and recreation; to protect ,conserve, and restore the region's, physical, cultural, archaeological, historical, and living resources; to aid in the preservation of working landscapes; to reduce the risk of natural disasters, such as wildfires; to protect and improve water and air quality; to assist the regional economy through the operation of the Conservancy's program; and to undertake efforts to enhance public use and enjoyment of lands owned by the public. The Sierra Nevada License Plate will help us fund projects for the betterment of the Sierra Nevada Region, its communities and the people of California.
